Passover came and went, my stomach suffered, the Seder was fine, and if I get around to it, I'll post some pictures.
Then, Spring Sprung around here and I went on a mad backyard makeover. We have a smallish yard with grass, since the majority of our yard is occupied by the pool. Last year, Dumpling got a swing set and a play-house, and the grass never recovered. But this year, prompted by guilty conscience over killing the planet, I did some stuff to make the yard better.
First, I bought a backyard composter. We're good recyclers, but I wanted to do something else. So I got a composter and we have now started putting all our compostable-food garbage in it. Since I don't garden or cut the grass, I'll have to count on the mower-guy for the *brown* input into our compost pile, but we'll see how it goes.
Then, the Home Depot had this totally cool outdoor sink unit that hides the hose and provides, well, an outdoor sink! Since Dumpling likes to wash her hands a thousand times a day and often requires *more water* to make the perfect sand castles, I was totally excited about this sink. It took over an hour to put it together, but has expected, it made Dumpling's day.
Finally, and this was the big one, we took out the swing, house and sand box, cut the yard into 1/3, 2/3, and cover the 1/3 with ceder mulch. Then we dragged the swing, house and sand box back, but this time, it's on the mulch. Since no grass was ever going to grown anywhere around them anyways, it seems to make sense to put something else down and try to keep the rest of the grass growing.
So that's what I've done so far this weekend. Of course, right after we finished it all, it started pouring rain and we haven't been able to spend a second enjoying it..... Ah, Canadian summers!
