A list of things that bring enjoyement to my life
If you are expecting some deep, meaning-of-life list, you would be so wrong!
- First off, the Roomba. LOVE it! Sure, I gotta empty the cannister after every room, and if I only run it after 3 days instead of 2, I might need to empty the cannister halfway through the room.... But the dog hair! And the sand! It's all gone! At first, I was letting it meander through the whole downstairs, but I've found that if I set up the virtual wall and make it to one room at a time, it's much much more efficient. Now I need to come up with some use for the dog hair that thing is collecting! There has to be some sort of craft one can do with dog hair.... (DO NOT send me links to gross dog-hair crafts!)
- The documentary Young at Heart. If you want to spend 2 hours having fun, clapping your hands and tapping your feet, and walking out completely uplifted, you HAVE TO SEE this movie. OK, you'll cry too, the people are very old, so it's no surprise when sad things happen, but it is the most uplifting movie I have seen in a very long time. And the music is awesome! You haven't lived until you have seen 80 y.o. sing "I wanna be sedated".
- iTunes Canada, FINALLY is selling TV shows. Of course, I am now a veteran of the illicit television downloading, but it bothers me on a certain level. So if something is available, I'm glad to buy it. Which is how I came to purchase a Spike series called The Kill Point. It's 24-ish in the sense that it follows one bank robbery for the entire season. And it's very good. I watched it in 3 days. Unfortunately, looks like there won't be another season, but it was well worth watching.
- Also enjoyable were NOW (No Opportunities Wasted) and The Border, both Canadian series.
- Finally, my biggest enjoyment right now comes courtesy of the nice people at Kohler, Lowe's and the Yellow Pages.... These companies, together with the fabulous HGTV network, have decided to allow me to watch Design Star online, from my computer.... You don't understand how exciting this is to me! See, I live behind the Iron Curtain that is Canada... where cable series show up a year later than in the US (Project Runway just started it's *new* season), or don't come at all. And if a network is nice enough to air full episodes on their website, they often are restricted by the CRTC and distribution deal, so I am faced with blank screens that state that the video I have selected is not available in my area (this is happening with half the episodes of In Plain sight on the USA network.... I can see 2 and 4 but not 1 and 3!!)
But the nice people at HGTV USA (not HGTV Canada, which is soooooo far behind on everything) and their lovely sponsors, Kohler, Lowe's and the Yellow Pages, have decided that even Canadians should be allowed to see Design Star. So we hook up the laptop to the TV and watch 1 episode per night. We still have a couple to go to catch up, but I just realised we never saw season 2, so we have more to look forward to!
And just to end on a crappy not, because this is a whine/wine blog after all, I still have no phone.... I went to get a replacement phone today, but they had none in stock. I ordered one and if it's not backordered, I might me back among the connected by the end of the day tomorrow.... I don't know how people with no phone/mobile data do it.... I am in serious withdrawal here! I had to wait til I got home to read my email! And my bloglines! The horror!

You've confirmed it. I must have a Roomba.
And about your phone. You're feelings are justified. I dislike those high and mighties claiming that we all need to "disconnect". No. I choose to make the world a smaller and friendlier place by trying to stay as connected as possible. Through my iPhone. :o)

I just ordered a Roomba for the Figby household based on your review after it took Mrs. Figby three hours to sweep and vacuum the house today.

LOVED "Young @ Heart"-- when the guy sings the Coldplay song alone during the show... the most poignant moment I've seen in a movie in a long time...

I gotta get a Roomba, too. I actually mentally justified the cost to myself by saying, hey, it would cost me that much to hire someone to clean house, and my time is worth $x per hour, and and and...

Oh my -- the Roomba sounds so cool -- may have to check into that asap!!
So glad that you can now see such fun tv! Do you watch Top Chef? Wait, I know that was a dumb question as I think I read back aways that you actually met one of the judges!! Love me some Top Chef and Project Runway starting soon. My hub loves Heidi Klum . . . is that a bad thing?? Hope you get your new phone soon! Take care.

Put the dog hair out in the garden as birds love to use it in making their nests.
Roomba is on my wish list!

I'm surprised you haven't mentioned Regenesis! That is a Canadian tv show that I have to download illicitly, since it doesn't play in US tv.
