Today, I had lunch with Gail Simmons and drinks with Anthony Bourdain. OK, sort of.....
Gail Simmons was the guest speaker at the annual women's fund-raising campaign in the Jewish community. I usually avoid those things like the plague, since I don't own pearls and my diamonds, though real, are dust compared to the rocks some of the ladies sport. But when I read that she was the guest speaker, I promptly made my donation and got a ticket. My friend S. who spearheaded the cookbook a few years ago, was a judge in the "cooking competition" they had, so she had dinner with Gail last night and was able to introduce me. Funny thing was, Top Chef isn't very well known around here, we are 6 months behind (unless you watch on illicit downloads like we do) so very few of the Ladies-Who-Lunch set had ever heard of her. Except for the fact that it turns out that she is also a McGill alum and is marrying a nice Jewish boy from right here! So she has strong ties to Montreal and lots of the ladies knew her has the fiancee-of-so-and-so.
My friend S. took a picture of us together, so as soon as she emails it to me, I'll show you guys.
Then, tonight, hubs and I had tickets to a book signing by Anthony Bourdain for his new book, No Reservation. We are big fans of his, both his books and his shows, and of course, he is a guest judge on Top Chef and writes a great blog about it. We didn't get to talk to him, because the theater was sold-out and we were up in the top, so by the time we got downstairs, the lineup was very, very long and as much as we enjoy him, I enjoy sitting in a restaurant more than I do waiting in line to have someone sign a book. But his chat was over an hour long and he was very funny and irreverent, and I had a glass of wine, so there you go!
Lunch with Gail and Drinks with Tony!
Sounds like fun! I don't know who Gail Simmons is, which goes to show you that I am not a foodie. Though I do know who Anthony Bourdain is. Good for you for having a fun night out!

I have a friend who semi-idolizes Bourdain. Can you pop me the link to his blog?

I love them both! Anthony Bourdain is wonderfully caustic and is a great foodie writer. I think I might have stood in line for him, no matter how long it took!
